Ryan Coonerty, LSCC Executive Director:
"Leadership Santa Cruz County's Class 38 kicked off their year-long course at Orientation on August 20, 2024. The class, 55 leaders representing the geographic and professional diversity of Santa Cruz County, gathered at Paradox Hotel for an evening of connection, teamwork, and discussion of why they are motivated to take on the challenge of leadership. This was my first event with the new class as executive director. I was so impressed with the way these extraordinary people jumped in and engaged with each other. It is going to be a wonderful year that produces leaders ready to take on the challenges and opportunities in this county for decades to come. Thank you to our Orientation sponsor Bookshop Santa Cruz for investing in these leaders and our community."
Jennifer Mount, LSCC Director and Leadership Trainer:
"Janet Janssen and I facilitated a balloon tower exercise in which the group was broken up into 7 teams. The team that built the tallest balloon tower in the allotted time earned a certificate. Each team was given a set of directions and a supply bag. The goal was to get to know each other and use team working skills to build the tallest tower.
In the directions, there were 10 “get to know each other” questions that Participants had to answer and post on balloon in order for the balloon to become part of the tower. After the time was up we did a Q&A to discuss the experience. We talked about the different strategies and teamwork skills the group used as well as what everyone learned through the exercise."
